EVRKind Becomes Lightwell Care, Launching Multilingual AI Support for Family Caregivers

Minnesota company unveils new brand, website and caregiver support tools during Twin Cities Startup Week

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., Sept. 14, 2026, LightWell Care, formerly EVRKind, today launched its new brand, website and multilingual AI support tools designed to help unpaid family caregivers organize information, prepare for health care conversations and identify practical next steps.

More than 63 million Americans provide ongoing care to someone with a medical condition or disability, according to the 2025 Caregiving in the U.S. report from AARP and the National Alliance for Caregiving. Much of that work happens outside the health care system, as families interpret information, coordinate responsibilities, prepare questions and determine what to do next.

“Caregiving asks families to carry a tremendous amount of information and responsibility, often without a clear place to turn after an appointment ends,” said Kathleen Hustad, founder and CEO of LightWell Care. “We’re building LightWell Care to help people sort through what they know, understand what comes next and move forward with greater confidence.”

Available around the clock, the LightWell Care Assistants provide multilingual support for common caregiving needs, including organizing tasks and information, preparing for appointments, communicating with family members and locating benefits and community resources.

The Assistants provide general educational and organizational support. They are not designed to diagnose or treat medical conditions or replace health care professionals, family judgment or human connection.

The launch coincides with Twin Cities Startup Week. Hustad will participate in several events throughout the week, including “Mom Coding: Building Without a Technical Background,” a fireside chat with Michael Arulfo, CPM, CLP and CSPO, on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 1:30 p.m. at the University of St. Thomas’ Schulze Hall C301. The conversation will focus on how nontechnical founders can build safely and scale thoughtfully.

Hustad will also participate in “Pitch to Podium: Connecting Innovation to City Mayors” on Tuesday, Sept. 15, from 3 to 7 p.m. at LaSalle Plaza, where founders will share their stories alongside city mayors.

On Wednesday, Sept. 16, from 4 to 6 p.m., LightWell Care—listed in the BETA Alumni Showcase program under its former name, EVRKind—will be featured at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Hustad will be available at the company’s table to demonstrate the product and discuss the transition to LightWell Care.

The launch follows Hustad’s selection as one of the 100 Changemakers for the AI-Powered Women 2026 conference, held at MIT’s Kresge Auditorium on Sept. 12-13. Her work with Lightwell Care is guided by questions about what should remain human, how technology can protect individual judgment and agency, and which responsibilities should and should not be handed to AI.

Hustad brings more than 13 years of experience across UnitedHealth Group and Optum, including work in marketing strategy, consumer experience, market intelligence, operational improvement and health care innovation. She founded the company after experiencing how difficult it can be for families to navigate care, even with extensive professional experience inside the health care system.
